Les mères is both a real conversation and a performance. At its core, it investigates the relationship between mothers and children as mediated by distance and language.
In the performance, audience members take turns conversing with their mothers on a hotel bed. Through these individual ‘scenes’, the performance both reveals a juxtaposition of mothers and languages (how we each speak a unique mother tongue) and produces a unique concrete event in each of the dramas that began with our own birth—the moment of separation between child and mother.
